Great year for Mayindu!

On the 25th of August 2018, BFTTA athlete Karen Mayindu in her very first ever athletics season qualified to the final of the National under 15 girls championships at Bedford Athletics Stadium.

Karen started with BFTTA in July 2017 and was completely unknown in the athletics world in that year. She competed in her very first official 100m race in April at Lee Valley Centre, where she ran a personal best of 13.08 secs.

The young athlete progressed well through the season with another personal best on her way to winning gold at the Essex championships in Chelmsford in another personal best of (12.53s). This secured her selection to the historic English Schools Championships in Birmingham on July 13th & 14th, where she was a finalist in (12.49s) and another personal best.

The national championships on August 25th & 26th proved tougher competition for the youngster who persevered to make the final but finished in a high calibre 6th place and yet another personal best of (12.38 secs).

BFTTA head coach TJ Ossai said: “I’m very proud of Karen. She has grown in confidence through the year, and her training consistency is testament to her good results. Im excited for next season”
